Strong leadership confirmed at 2025 Polocrosse Australia AGM

Polocrosse Australia is pleased to share the outcomes of its 2025 annual general meeting, held on Saturday, 22 March in Adelaide.

The meeting reaffirmed confidence in the organisation’s leadership, with the re-election of Mick Templeton as chair and Brian Johnson as director. Both have played a vital role in guiding the sport nationally, and their continued service ensures valuable stability and momentum for the year ahead.

In a notable addition, Pip Crook was elected to the Board as a new director. A former President of Polocrosse Western Australia, Pip brings a wealth of governance expertise and a strong passion for the sport. Her insights and experience will be a welcome addition to the national leadership team.

These appointments underscore Polocrosse Australia’s ongoing commitment to strong governance, national representation, and the sustainable growth of the sport.

2025 board state liaison roles

Following the AGM, the following state liaison roles were confirmed:

  • Mick Templeton – New South Wales
  • Brian Johnson – Western Australia
  • Pip Crook – Victoria & Northern Territory
  • Charlie Brook – Tasmania & South Australia
  • Cat Nicholls – Queensland

The Board also remains focused on filling two remaining director vacancies and will continue to seek individuals who bring the right skills and passion to these roles.

General business update

The AGM also provided a valuable platform to review progress across key strategic areas including governance, participation, and business development.

Governance

A major focus this year is the continued update of the Polocrosse Australia constitution, ensuring alignment with modern governance standards and best practices. A nominations committee will be established to review Board composition, conduct annual skills assessments, and guide future appointments and elections. The organisation is also actively seeking a chair for the horse welfare committee, reaffirming its strong commitment to animal welfare.

Participation and growth

Committees including national umpiring, grading, and high performance outlined their 2025 priorities. Under chief umpire Paul McGrath, the national umpiring committee is focused on introducing a women’s umpiring program, facilitating state umpire exchanges, and trialling new lineup procedures. The grading committee’s focus is to reduce inconsistency across states through quarterly meetings and enhanced national coordination.

The high-performance committee, formed in February, is working to expand development opportunities for players, coaches, and umpires, aligning with upcoming international competition cycles.

Business development

Marketing and communications are being strengthened through a renewed focus on content strategy and live streaming initiatives aimed at broadening the sport’s reach. Ongoing technology upgrades to the national database and digital platforms are being implemented through a phased approach, with the goal of improving usability and reducing costs for member states. Efforts also continue to build partnerships with community-minded and commercial organisations.

Looking ahead

Polocrosse Australia remains dedicated to collaborating with states, clubs, and members to deliver positive outcomes across all areas of the sport. Active member participation in committees is strongly encouraged as the organisation drives forward with purpose and unity.

We thank all members and delegates who attended the AGM and congratulate the newly elected representatives. With an experienced and passionate leadership team in place, Polocrosse Australia is well positioned for a successful and progressive year ahead.
